Armoured Joints
Armoured joints prevent cracks from occurring in concrete slabs. As a concrete floor cures, the fresh concrete shrinks. Without the use of armoured joints, the floor would develop cracks due to the strong forces acting within the concrete.
Armoured joints are placed on the ground in a grid formation before the concrete pour, where they serve as a permanent formwork, making the pour more manageable. As the concrete cures, the two sides of the armoured joint are pulled apart by the contraction forces in the concrete – but the floor remains free of cracks.
Rocland recommends armoured joints from RCR sister company, Permaban – an international leader in armoured joints for over 30 years.
