Qualitop Metal
Qualitop Metal is a heavy-duty 'dry-shake' surface hardener for concrete, particularly suitable for applications which need an anti-static, spark-resistant floor.
Typical applications
- Heavy industry and engineering
- Logistics and freight terminals
- Foundries
- Aircraft hangars
- Railway workshops
- Military bases
- Electronics manufacturing
- Gas, solvent and explosives handling areas
- Internal use
Product Description
Qualitop Metal combines ductile, oxidising metal wool with cement, pigments and workability aids. Sprinkled onto freshly-laid concrete, or applied as a slurry, the mix cures to form a hard surface which protects the floor from damage.
Excellent impact resistance
Qualitop Metal is particularly resistant to impact damage. Its strength comes from the specially-treated metal fibres it contains. This makes Qualitop Metal an excellent choice for heavy industrial workshop floors, where there is a risk of sudden heavy impact through equipment or tools being dropped on the floor.
Anti-static industrial flooring
Qualitop Metal is spark resistant, making it ideal for sensitive environments where an anti-static industrial floor surface is vital – such as for electronics manufacturing, or where gases, solvents or explosives are handled.
Abrasion resistance
The metal fibres make Qualitop Metal very hard-wearing. In a Boehm abrasion test, the floor’s surface wore by only 3cm3 per 50cm2 (the result for an uncoated floor was 9cm3 per 50cm2). This means that if the floor is likely to be scraped, or repeatedly crossed by heavy traffic, Qualitop Metal will protect the floor and help to extend its life.
Cost-effective coloured concrete flooring
Qualitop Metal is available in our range of standard colours, and we can blend bespoke colours too when required. Applying this surface hardener is an easy and cost-effective way to add colour to a concrete floor.
High performance protection
Qualitop Metal is a high performance surface hardener for concrete, which means the floor will be protected for years, and its life will be considerably extended. The up-front investment will be more than recouped in the long-term, due to reduced floor maintenance and repair bills, and less disruption to operations.
Application choices
Qualitop Metal can be applied as a dry-shake powder, sprinkled on top of a freshly-poured concrete slab and power-trowelled. It can also be applied as a ‘fresh-on-fresh’ (wet-on-wet) slurry, by pre-mixing it with water to the recommended consistency. A fresh-on-fresh application increases durability and colour consistency. Further application details are given in the technical datasheet. Examples of the two application methods can be seen in the videos below.
